The first mtu Series 4000 marine engine launched in 1996 at the Hamburg SMM exhibition. Over 58,000 have been sold globally, with 345,000,000+ operating hours guiding next-gen development.

We pioneered high-speed diesel engines with common rail injection in 1996. Since 2016, our engine is the only high-speed diesel for hard workboats, up to 4300 kW (5780 hp).

The Series 4000 M05, latest for commercial marine use, prioritizes cost, performance & maintenance. Based on IRONMEN engines, it's refined for durability, e.g., new piston ring alloy & relocated fuel filters.

Starting & oil systems feature a 24V electric starter, gear-driven lube pump, switchable/centrifugal filters, heat exchanger, and closed crankcase ventilation for reliable operation.

Fuel & cooling systems include a common rail injection with cylinder cutout, jacketed fuel lines, and separate high/low-temp circuits with gear-driven pumps for efficient performance.

Exhaust, turbocharging, and monitoring systems offer triple-walled liquid-cooled manifolds, twin turbochargers, seawater-resistant filters, and mtu NautIQ solutions for advanced control.
